Ichthus Canoe Club Chesterfield is an open club keen to welcome new members and help introduce them to a wide range of paddle disciplines and develop their paddling skills  in a fun and safe environment.

But why Ichthus?

Ichthus,

Is Greek for the word “Fish” and the fish was an early symbol used by the early Christian Church and can still be seen today.

Ichthus, which is an acronym ( the first letters of the Greek phrase “Jesous Christos Theou Huios Soter” – which means “Jesus Christ, of God the Son, Saviour”.  

It was written as graffiti and used as a secret password by Christians who were being persecuted by the Romans. 

And this is the focus of a number of our coaches and members within the club, but now days we don’t have anything against the Romans…
